So... Matthew Saxon is furious because his attempt to get laid failed too?"I already said, if you really want to... we can wait till we get back and then..."
"You actually think I’m interested in you?" Her words were cut off again by his angry, humiliated snap.
Matthew slowly stood up from the floor, his face cold.
"I was just testing you just now, and you really think I’m so undiscriminating?" The vicious, cutting words came out of his mouth as he straightened up, lips pressed tight, staring at her icily. "Scarlett Yates, I have zero interest in your type of woman. There isn’t a single thing worth looking at on you from head to toe. If you want to play hard‑to‑get with me, go eat more papaya and grow some boobs first."
That line sounded familiar, like she’d heard it somewhere before.
Scarlett thought carefully, then remembered: it was back when she and Matthew had just met, he’d said something similar.
She couldn’t help lowering her head to glance at her own chest. It might not be spectacular, but it was at least nicely shaped, wasn’t it?
How dare he say there’s not a single thing on her worth looking at!
She opened her mouth, wanting to talk back. Just as she was about to speak, a knock suddenly sounded at the door.
The sound was soft; whoever was outside rapped a few times and then stopped, followed by a low, cool voice: "Scarlett, are you feeling any better? Can I come in?"
As soon as she heard that voice, Scarlett’s expression changed slightly. Her first reaction was to grab Matthew Saxon’s hand and drag him toward the bathroom.
The person outside was Maxwell Saxon.
Matthew’s face looked awful. She dragged him a few steps before he stopped, forcefully shook off her hand, and said coldly, "What are you doing?"
"Maxwell is here. You need to find somewhere to hide first." she said anxiously.
When he heard that, his expression got even uglier. He gritted his teeth and let out a cold laugh. "So what if he’s here? Why should I hide?"
Before Scarlett could say anything, he spoke in an even deeper, colder voice: "My wife isn’t feeling well. I came to check on her. That’s the most normal thing in the world. Why should I hide? What exactly is there to hide from?"
"Even if I’ve fallen into his hands right now, I’m not about to act this pathetic and wretched. I want to see what he thinks he can do to me when he sees me later."
His face was dark and stormy, his gaze icy. Clearly, Scarlett’s earlier reaction had pissed him off.
Was this damn woman afraid he’d suffer a loss, or afraid Maxwell would see and get the wrong idea?
The more anxious she looked, the angrier he got. Ignoring her attempts to stop him, he strode toward the door, face gloomy.
By the time Scarlett caught up, Matthew had already opened the door.
He narrowed his phoenix eyes slightly at the man standing outside, curled his lips, crossed his arms and leaned lazily against the wall, his tone very casual: "Oh, it’s you, big brother. What are you doing here?"
Maxwell Saxon froze for a few seconds when he saw him, looking somewhat surprised that he was still here. The two of them exchanged a look filled with unspoken meaning. Maxwell gave a slight smile and said, "I’m here, of course, to see my fiancée. She wasn’t feeling well just now. I’m worried about her."
"Your fiancée?" Matthew’s thin lips hooked again in a mocking curve. "Big brother, you must be joking. The only one inside is your sister‑in‑law; there’s no other woman. If you’re looking for your fiancée, you’d better go somewhere else and keep looking."
