You’re terrified, but your curiosity gets the better of you anyway—I think that’s the true draw of urban legends.
This novel is about six urban legends in six different towns. All of them should be shudder inducing, and they each have something that makes them unique.
First Town: The Wriggler
What makes the wriggler so frightening is that once you witness it, it follows you forever no matter where you go. Even if you only happen to see it by accident, it simply won’t stop pursuing you, for reasons unknown. On top of that, if it catches you, something bad will happen. I think that would be a very scary experience.
No one knows what the wriggler actually looks like, why it wriggles, or what makes it follow people. People fear things they don’t understand. I think the wriggler represents that fear of the unknown.
Second Town: The Truth of the Red Crayon
What would you do if you found a hidden room in your house no one knew about? In this story, strange occurrences keep happening in a house someone has just moved into.
When the little heroine is home with their family, the house isn’t scary at all, but for some reason, things get spooky when everyone else isn’t around. When you wake up in the middle of the night and walk down your hallway alone, have you ever felt scared? That’s the kind of terror this story covers.
Third Town: The Bizarre Cat
Urban legends get passed down from one person to another. In this chapter, a certain story is making its way around. And just so you know, even though the cat might look odd, it isn’t actually scary. Plenty of urban legends are strange but not scary.
Fourth Town: Love Spells
Anyone would want their crush to like them, and during those times, a love spell will do the trick. But what if there’s a frightening secret to the charm?
There’s always something alarming hidden behind every urban legend. And even a spell that seems like fun and games at first has something more sinister hiding behind it.
When using love spells, be very careful what you wish for.
Fifth Town: Sugisawa Village
There’s an old legend that deep in a certain mountain, there’s a creepy hidden village named Sugisawa. Some people have claimed on TV and the internet that they’ve actually been there.
But no one has any idea where the village actually is.
This story is about the truth of that village. Some places shouldn’t be visited just to satisfy your curiosity.
Sixth Town: Little Nanoka
Now, this is the Japanese take on a popular urban legend in America: the Slenderman. Apparently, when the mysterious man appears in photos, you’re in for some trouble.
A certain person suddenly encounters an urban legend. This story is about what to do in those situations.
